History

Hefra was incorporated in 1972 as a spin-off of Chloride’s sales activities (now Exide). The founders supplemented these operations with starting-assistance services, thereby acquiring experience with the replacement market. The increasing demand for affordable batteries resulted in Hefra’s pioneering decision to make large numbers of Korean batteries available to the Dutch market – an initiative which, in view of these batteries’ excellent price/quality ratio, proved to be a great success. An equally successful move was the introduction of VMF maintenance-free batteries, based on calcium technology, in the upper segment of the battery market.

In 1996 the founder and Managing Director, Henk van Oosten (see photo), was succeeded by his son, Leo van Oosten. Under Leo’s management the company rapidly doubled its turnover. In 2000 Hefra began a series of takeovers, namely IBC Veac, followed by the Belgian Distribatt company and the trading activities of battery manufacturers Boogstein, Kroon and Wilco.

Now, two company relocations later, the starting assistance services have become history. However, Hefra’s professionalism, attention to the product and personal relationships with its clients have unchanged. Consequently Hefra, with its comprehensive network of procurement channels, in-depth technological knowledge and large stock positions, constitutes an excellent partner for the supply of all types of secondary batteries currently in use.
